rené carter was born in colorado springs, where she grew up with a love of adventure and spent her time outside skiing, climbing mountains, and going to red rocks concerts. 

 

when she was 20 years old, rené turned to art as a way to process her perceptions and experiences. she has been self-teaching ever since.

 

along with her art, rené has a strong passion for life sciences. she received her bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from the university of colorado boulder and is now working on her phd in neurobiology at duke university. she is researching the therapeutic potential of psychedelic drugs like lsd, with hopes to uncover better ways to treat mental illness. her interest in the brain and how it shapes our unique experiences plays a major role in defining the themes of her art.

 

rené currently lives in north carolina, with her crested gecko, jumping spiders, and cats. she spends her time doing science experiments, making art, and doing ballet in her forest house.
